This category of self-propelled articulated work platforms and articulated telescopic work platforms is differentiated by small, compact, and mobile work machines equipped with environmentally friendly electric drives for inside applications and by robust, diesel-powered units - some with 4-wheel drive - with high surface clearance for outside applications.

In general, rough terrain self-propelled diesel-powered articulated telescopic work platforms are used on construction sites. They can reach a working height of 12 to 41 meters.

These are mostly equipped with 4-wheel drive and some come with 4WD steering. They have a differential lock. Permanent all-wheel drive in combination with the differential permits an excellent forward motion even over rough terrain.  These articulated telescopic work platforms for outside terrain have the necessary surface clearance.

An additional advantage of all-terrain articulated telescopic work platform are their large size tires with extreme heavy treads. This allows maneuvering under the most difficult of surface conditions as exist in most outside construction sites. Elevating work platforms come with a safety switch that blocks the “up” function in case of slopes or inclined positions of more than 5 degrees.

Compared to battery-powered equipment, telescopic work platforms with diesel engines have larger dimensions and are more compactly built. They have a wider chassis, which allows them to balance and bypass unevenness or obstacles more easily.

The diesel-powered telescopic work platforms are mainly used in industrial applications such as steel or hall construction, tunnel construction, during repair and maintenance work, in wood construction, for demolitions, for mounting lighted billboards, or other advertising techniques, during events and other congresses.

Electro-powered boom lifts and articulated telescopic work platforms are mainly used in interior applications such as halls. Sometimes, they are usable on the outside provided the terrain is easy to drive. They are equipped with a 2-wheel electric drive and thus, are only suitable for driving on smooth and totally level surfaces. This type of work platform cannot be used on extreme inclinations or unsecured surfaces.

Electric work platforms have a low surface clearance and thus reach a lower center of gravity. Their narrow construction allows working under particularly tight conditions. All battery-operated telescopic work platforms are completely free of emissions and thus can be used in halls or inside buildings without hesitation.

Most machines come equipped with a hydraulically swiveling jib, which allows easy bypassing of high obstacles. Some come with a rotating bucket guaranteeing additional mobility. This equipment is mostly used in industrial applications, for repair, reconditioning and maintenance work, changing of illuminants, etc. or during electro-installations and other service-related work.
