Scissor work platforms are the suitable for work directly on a wall or on a ceiling. They are cost-effective alternatives to rolling scaffolds. At the same time, they serve as mobile hoists for people and material and are usable for inside and outside applications. Scissor work platforms can be loaded at ground level and can be elevated to the desired working height within seconds. They are self-propelled and partially free of supports. They can be steered at full height from the platform and driven to the next work location.
Scissor lifts offer a large work deck with a high load capacity of up to 1,000 kg. This makes them suitable for heavy assemblies. However, they can only be elevated vertically. They reach working heights between 6 to 33 meters. The platform can be elevated manually or hydraulically and thus extended.
There are two construction types of scissor work platforms; narrow, compact platforms for inside use and robust ones for outside use. The small, very mobile scissor work platforms for inside applications have a low total weight. Normally, they are equipped with environmentally friendly powerful high performance batteries and full rubber tires, which are gentle to fragile floor surfaces. Their narrow width allows them to be used in small hallways of high rack storage facilities.
Scissor work platforms used in outside applications are diesel-powered, have deep treads, all-wheel drive and some of them come with all-wheel steering, oscillating axle, differential lock, and plenty of surface clearance. This makes them ideal candidates for use in rough terrain. Moreover, they are equipped with hydraulic levelers and supports, which can be controlled individually allowing them always to stand horizontally and firm even in uneven terrain.
Diesel-powered scissor lifts are mainly used in industrial applications, for laying pipes, in steel or wood construction, for gate assemblies, during demolitions, for mounting lighted billboards or other advertising techniques.
Below are some advantages of scissors:
- highest mobility, because all movements (driving, steering, lifting, lowering, and platform relocating) can be controlled from the platform
- enormous savings in time, because the working height does not need lowering for changing positions of up to 10 meters.
- It is perfectly suitable for direct work without bypassing obstacles, directly on or under the task at hand
- extremely large deck (up to 34.5 m²) for assembling large bulky parts
- small decks (71cm in width, 1.82 m in length) for applications in limited spaces or weight-dependent problem applications
- hydraulically extendable or movable platforms, thereby extending the working surface and allowing to bypass smaller obstacles up to a width of 2 meter
- high load capacity of up to 1,000 kg
- state-of-the-art hydraulic combined with high work speeds
- full rubber or foam-filled all-terrain tires
- abrasion-resistant tires or bandages protect floors from black residue
- work platform with 230-volt power supply avoids awkward dealings with extension cables
